Rumor are spreading that Metallica has jumped the bandwagon and will pull a “Radiohead”. The band has hinted that they may release music for free online much like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have done recently.
Speaking to Rolling Stone Drummer Lars Ulrich said, “We’re looking at how we can embrace everything. We want to be as free players as possible. We’ve been observing Radiohead and Trent Reznor [of Nine Inch Nails] and in 27 years or however long it takes for the next record, we’ll be looking forward to everything in terms of possibilities with the internet.”
For those of you who don’t remember Ulrich, on behalf of his band, sued then popular peer-to-peer software company Napster in 2000 for distributing their songs online for free. The lawsuit sparked major backlash against the band with many fans calling them sellouts and many burning their albums in public protests.
