Tanya Andersen by all accounts seems like your typical 45 year-old single mother, however, Tanya may be a hero to millions of music lovers who hate the RIAA. A while back Tanya was accused by the RIAA of stealing music on the internet, well as it turns out Tanya wasn’t stealing. Like many she had Wifi internet and her young neighbor stole her I.P. (which is easy to do) and began downloading music. The neighbor was never charged, Tanya was. Luckily she was vindicated and now she’s turning the table on the RIAA and suing them for $5 million, citing conspiracy and illegal investigative practices. Andersen alleges the RIAA uses illegal means to obtain and pursue people who are then threatened and pressured into paying huge sums of money in out-of-court settlements without proper proof of any wrongdoing.
As for the RIAA response to the lawsuit? They are saying Andersen’s claims are false and that they are simply trying to protect their intellectual property.
