Mumm-Ra have announced they have split up. The Sussex five-piece band, announced the break-up on their
MySpace page giving no specific reason. The announcement read: “After seven years, 11 months and 21 days of writing and playing music together us
Mumm-Ra boys have decided our journey as a band has come to an end.
“It has without doubt been the most fantastic adventure any of us could possibly have imagined all those years ago, when the rather naive idea to form a band sprang from our young minds and led us to the nearest practice room.
Mumm-Ra
“Since then we have eaten in skyscrapers in Tokyo, danced with Tottenham fans in Cologne, made a video in Hollywood, posed with the playboy bunnies in Barcelona, met real life rednecks in Texas, had street fights with
The View, played
Glastonbury, rocked the NME tour to pieces, supported
The Killers,
The Kooks and
Kaiser Chiefs around Europe and generally just had the most incredible time along the way.
“We would like to thank every single person who has supported us over the years whether it be through buying our album, coming to our gigs or just giving us a listen. No doubt various members will have new projects up and running in the near future. But until then…” Mumm-Ra released their only album, ‘These Things Move In Threes‘, last year in May.

While most bands work on one album at a time, Peter, Bjorn & John work on two. The band has revealed that they are in the process of working on two new albums which are both set for release in the coming year. Speaking to NME about the first album, which he described as an instrumental album, frontman Peter Moren said, “It’s something we’ve always wanted to do to have a bit of fun between albums. It’s very melodic and unpretentious and laid-back.” The album will feature a bit of spoken word with no singing and will contain 10 tracks. “We each have our own theme song. Mine has my grandfather telling a story in a local dialect, and John’s has a hairdresser from his village telling a story,” added Moren, “It’s probably going to be called ‘Seaside Rock‘, to tie together the themes of water and sea.” The first album is slated for release next March.
