John McCain has found himself front and center of a lawsuit brought against him by singer Jackson Browne. Browne is accusing the Republican presidential candidate of using his 1977 hit song ‘Running On Empty‘ in a campaign advertisement without his permission. The suit, which was filed in US District Court in Los Angeles, names McCain, the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party as defendants. According to the Associated Press Browne is seeking at least $75,000 in damages as well as a permanent injunction against further use of his music by the McCain party. Speaking about the suit, Browne’s lawyer said his client is a “lifelong liberal activist and supporter of Democratic candidates, and use of his song and his voice in a commercial bashing Barack Obama is anathema to Jackson.”

The ad at the center of the lawsuit mocks an energy-conserving idea proposed by Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate.
