Vampire Weekend Announce Free Barack Obama Benefit Show
September 30th, 2008
Vampire Weekend are showing their support for US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The band has announced a free benefit show to take place at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA this Saturday (October 4). The free show is sponsored by Students for Barack Obama at Carnegie Melon University and is a Free Voter Registration Concert with the aim of encouraging people to vote. The benefit concert will be held at the College of Fine Arts Lawn and will be open to the public.
The band recently wrote on their MySpace page why they support the Democratic presidential candidate:
“For us, the choice in this election is incredibly clear. We support Barack Obama because on every issue we care about he is more logical, more sensitive, and less biased than John McCain. It’s important to talk openly about voting and we’re happy that we can contribute to the campaign, not only as individuals, but as a band.”
