Neil Young Cancels LA Concert To Show Union Support

Neil Young canceled his concert last night (October 30) at the Los Angeles Forum to show support for union workers.

The singer was set to play the venue but dropped the performance after learning that the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) union, Local 33, planned to picket his show.

Young, who is an honorary lifetime member of the IATSE, decided to cancel the show rather than cross the picket line.

IATSE are in the middle of a contract dispute with The Forum’s owner, Faithful Central Bible Church.

A statement issued by Young read: “I am extremely disappointed to have to choose between satisfying my fans or backing my brothers and sisters of the IATSE. I will miss playing in Los Angeles and apologize to my fans for the inconvenience this has caused.”

The canceled date will be rescheduled for sometime in 2009. Ticket holders can obtain refunds at points of purchase.
