Devendra Banhart, Black Lips Cover Mexican Tracks For New Film

Devendra Banhart and the Black Lips are among the artists recording covers of popular Mexican tracks for the soundtrack of a forthcoming film.

The soundtrack for the Carlos Cuarón directed film, ‘Rudo y Cursi‘, will also feature songs by Mexican Institute of Sound, Juana Molina, Nortec Collective, and Dios Malos.

The soundtrack, which will also feature Spanish versions of songs such as Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me“, is set for release on iTunes on May 5th with a physical release set for June 9 via Nacional Records.

The forthcoming film stars actor Gael Garcia Bernal who featured on the 2007 Devendra Banhart album ‘Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon‘, contributing vocals on the track “Cristobal.”
