‘Guitar Hero 5’ Setlist Revealed
June 1st, 2009
White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Beastie Boys, and the Rolling Stones are among the bands to be featured on ‘Guitar Hero 5‘.
The new edition of ‘Guitar Hero‘, which is set to be released this autumn, will also include music by Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, Muse, and Public Enemy.
The release of ‘Guitar Hero 5‘ will coincide with the release of “Rock Band: Beatles“.
The highly anticipated Beatles edition of Rock Band is set for worldwide release on September 9, 2009.

I don’t think the line-up is horrible, clearly Guitar Hero 5 is going for a specific target audience with bands like Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, The Killers, Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio. The setlist is shockfull of indie bands. Hopefully other versions of the game will continue to include different bands from different genres.
There are alot of obviouses and surprises in the setlist. I mean come on, led zepplid should have been up there with lynard skynard in GH2. It’s also good to see some returns like megadeth and iron maiden. i think this might be a good seller and enjoyable gameplay

I am excited to FINALLY play RUNNIN DOWN A DREAM. I like that they got the Rolling Stones back in there along with Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Elton John’s Saturday Night’s Alright for Fightin will be a blast on guitar, finally Dire Straits, Rush (hopefully Spirit of Radio), Queen and David Bowie (probably Under Pressure), Peter Frampton (hopefully Show me the Way), Police, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, and Grand Funk Railroad (hopefully We’re an American Band). However, where is GUNS N ROSES WITH PARADISE CITY????? WHERE IS MORE DEF LEPPARD WITH POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME???? THEY NEED TO GET MORE HARD ROCK AND CLASSIC ROCK (JOURNEY- DON’T STOP BELIEVIN)???

The setlist is better than 4 ill give it that but still comon. What has happen to the GUITAR in guitar hero? Like really? Guitar heros 1-3 were just epic and each one got harder. Now they are just pathetic. I cant believe that we ve gotten to the point where Weezer (which is possible one of the most homosexual bands ever) to officially have more songs in a guitar hero than Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine, Dragonforce, or Buckethead does. guitar hero should honestly dedicate a guitar hero to just creepy and death metal bands. Just use bands like Dope, Mindless self indulgence, lamb of god, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Bloodbath. That would make a good game for people that have a large intrest in those genres because they keep making stuff for 8 year olds, homosexuals and old people. Most of the people buying guitar hero are metal fans only buying the game for usually the last 2 setlists of the game. Setlists 7 and 8 were amazing in guitar 2 and 3 but in guitar hero 4 it just sucked. Sure Bullet for my valentine is awesome but everything else was much older stuff.

When are they going to release some good MODERN ROCK tracks. Examples: Chevelle, Collective Soul, Shinedown, Sevendust, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Trapt, Audioslave, MORE Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Eve 6 (Inside Out….one of the greastest rock songs of my generation…IMO), The Exies, GREEN DAY, Incubus, Hoobastank, 3 Doors Down, Korn, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Nine Inch Nails, Papa Roach etc

That list sucks, and I refuse to buy another Guitar Hero game until they get some decent music on their setlists. I own II, III, Aerosmith, Metallica, And World Tour. World Tour set list sucked after the 5 gigs. Tool was its only redeeming factor. I love Guitar Hero gameplay, but Rockband has x1,000,000 better songs and the lists you can download are insane. Tons of great modern rock and classic rock tracks. Ive probably downloaded 60 bucks worth of extra songs from RB and RB2. Get your crap together GH creators. Your songs suck.

People do you research before you QQ about the songlist. There is no and never will be led zeppelin in a rhythm game, they have announced multiple times that the only way you can play one of there songs is with a real instrument. No beatles, AC/DC, or GNR because they are rock band exclusives. There is no Van halen because they have their own game coming out. I think this has to be one of the best GH games based off of the bands some of them have really caught my eye. Going down the list i can hope for Kiss-love gun, Blink182-whats my age again, Muse-supermassive blackhole, White stripes-seven nation army, gorrilaz-feel good inc, racontuers-steady as you go, coldplay-Talk, Nirvana-smells like teen spirit, Rush-Spirit of the radio (anything would be awesome though lol), Smashing pumpkins-bullet with butterfly wings, Attack attack-stick stickly, wolfmother-Joker and the thief, Beck-loser, Weezer-island in the sun, Queen and david bowie-under pressure (duh), The killers-All these things that ive done, rolling stones-sympathy for the devil, thin lizzy-Jailbreak, elton john-tiny dancer. thats what im hoping for anyway

Look at the bright side, this is a whole lot fuckin’ better than Guitar Hero World Tours list, that was preety horrible accually lol. I’m so glad Children Of Bodom is on it too, Kissing the shadows would be epic. I hope it’s Holy Wars… The Punishment Due by Megadeth will be on it. And I’m fine with any Smashing Pumpkins song from thier first 3 albums… They’re my favorite band so it’s great to still see them on Guitar Hero. Geek U.S.A needs to be on the next guitar hero, It has really hard drums and guitar. The solo is #53 on GuitarWorld. Geek U.S.A would be freakin’ epic. Beck! I’m so happy! Thatt was unexpecting! And Gorillaz! And if they’re going to have any Elton John son they better have Rocketman! AND WHITE STRIPES OMG YES. The only bands that are bad on here are the emo bands (like Thrice, EW) and a few of the indie bands. This is an epic win for Guitar Hero, If they have all of each of the bands best songs on this game that would make this the best guitar hero hands down.

I love when you guys think so much about the worst band in history, SOAD. They had like one good song in their entire career. When I see people say metal and start naming all these mainstream bands it sickens me. Now what Guitar Hero should do is think hmm, 90% of the people who play this its because they want to play a fast, fun, hard song. In this case, metal would be amazing. Get some technical bands on there like Protest the Hero or The Human Abstract. If they could put Mea Culpa or Vela, Together We Await the Storm, I would buy this game in a heart beat.

For all of those who are completely unaware, there will be no time in the near future where you will see any song from Led Zeppelin on Guitar Hero or Rock Band. In numerous interviews and requests, Jimmy Page has expressed ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in allowing GH or RB to use their songs. He is completley against the whole idea of people learning “how to play instruments” by the use of a video game. While I am a super fan of Led Zeppelin I am sorry to say we will not now or probably ever see a Led Zeppelin song on any video game!

They do need to start putting some better music on guitar hero. I would love to see some more metal/progressive stuff. Dream Theater, Dragonforce, KSE, Slipknot, and other stuff that would be fun, but challenging. Some of the stuff is good, but some stuff is just what the hell is going on. I think it will overall be a fun and entertaining game. Should be good.

good god this is the worst set list anyone could have ever created first of all the game is GUITAR hero and a little over 3/4 of this setlist i listen to and hear almost no guitar what happened to guitar hero having the great ROCKnROLL bands such as motorhead, Blue oyster cult, cream, ozzy, black sabbath, now granted zz top is not the best band ever but it was fun to play, im glad megadeth is back but there are more bands that could be added such as more hendrix (with vocals), led zeppelin would be amazing of course but will likely never happen, more iron maiden, some Black label society (you know that amazing guitar player from ozzy Zakk Wylde’s band) stevie ray vaughn was good on 3 why not more of him the sysytem of a down and slayer songs are hard but imensly fun to play they need to leave out the pop rock such as def lepard and definatly NO JOURNEY if you need JOURNEY to be in guitar hero your messed up it’s a chick band Now some classic REO Speedwagon before they turned into a chick band would be nice

Well I like that they brought The Sword back, Freya was one of my favorites off of GH2. Also I like that they put Darkest Hour in there, hope its Demon(s). And Attack Attack but yeah the Guitar Hero franchise is just like falling like im into Deathcore and that stuff so i need stuff thats heavy not Elton John. Honestly they should make a Deathcore/Death Metal GH but they most likely will never do it just cuz it be damn hard but whatever it’d be a challenge. I remember when I got GH4 and i got 5 stars on every song except for Satch Boogie and Hot for Teacher. just sad

I have to agree with Supa. It is time for a metal only Guitar Hero. I am a huge Marilyn Manson fan but have been disappointed year after year. Enough with Nirvana and Beastie Boys as well as Sonic Youth and Weezer. How about more of Korn and SOAD ( one song each) and how about Manson, Killswith, and Atreyu. I have become an expert at playing songs weith my eyes closed and head falling back because the songs are boring and make me sleepy. How about a guitar hero where fans can vote for their personal favorites!?!?!?

I agree with you justin they shouyld have some Led Zeppelin songs like stairway to heaven or houses of the holy at least something. And montrell, Rockband is already making Rock Band Beatles.
They dont have anything against Led Zeppelin. The band is notoriously hard to get to license there stuff out, the reason there’s no Led Zep is cos Led Zep wont let them use there songs, and im not saying i dont like all the indie music and pop i am more of a metal man but tbh calm down, the music on this setlist is alright but then again, if you listen to it, its not exactly guitar driven. The reason stuff like metal is would be better for this is because generally metal is more guitar driven so would be more fun and challenging to play. If you dont like it check out rock band they have a fuck load of downloadable content wich will probably make you happy, theres no Metallica because GH just made a fucking game about them and christ, if you love some of these bands so much to defend them fiercely how bout actually picking up a cheap guitar and amp and learning some basic stuff, guitar is fucking easy, granted it takes some practise but so does most things. Just cos you cant solo as soon as you pick one up it dosent mean you suck you just got to practise. And dont do any stupid hate comments just cos you think im being unreasonable cos ive not bashed any of your bands you nonse

Really though, after GH5, Activision should quit marketing Guitar Hero games and start coming out with DLC. I mean, GH3, GHWT and now GH5 are going to have DLC. Harmonix and Rock Band are making a crapload of money, and they aren’t marketing a new game every 6 months. Learn a lesson from a formula that works, Activision, and start focusing in on improving one game instead of adding a bunch of bells and whistles and hoping that next time it’ll sell well.

The problem with adding new instruments to guitar hero is that now they have to find songs that have fun part for allllll the instruments. there is tons of great songs out there with awesome guitar or drumming but there is very little vocals, drums and bass, and vice versa .

What people have to understand is that Guitar Hero isnt what it was anymore. When the original game came out it was aimed at rock fans wanting to replicate the guitar experience on a console, and so it continued building through 2 and 3. Thing is, to compete in a market where Rock Band was gaining through use of multiple instruments, Guitar Hero had to change. So people moaning about the lack of deathcore tracks may want to remember the fact these songs have to be played on a plastic drum kit and sung using a singstar-esque microphone and software, it’s on the most part unfeasible.
To sum up, GH is mainstream now, everyone knows what it is, and it’s target audience isn’t just rock fans anymore, it wants to cater for everyone, from children to women and also not upset the original fans (hence tracks from megadeth and The Sword for instance still being on there). I admit, as a metal fan and a GH fan right from the start, it is a little upsetting not being tested like we were in 3, but you have to respect that sales matter more to Activision than a few people whinging on a forum.
Ps. If you want a great setlist with drum and microphone support, pick up GH: Greatest Hits, it has the majority of the best tracks all collected on one disc. It’s pretty awesome not having to mess about swapping discs and having drum support.

I’m with metal head on this one I think their should be more metal and less emo music because if you actually took the time to listen to one of disturbed or slipknot songs etc etc you’ll see that they do produce good music and it doesn’t make anyone want to cut them self I think it makes them do the opposite. Plus it would be awsome to play metal songs because their so freakin tricky and fun to play and you can just get into the music and the game more. Think About it.

They did put some bands on that they seem to always pass over like dire straits, Grand funk railroad and david bowie! Finally! When did Johnny Cash and Stevie Wonder become rock or metal? Guitar Hero is going down the tubes. Can they ever put the only 2000’s band that is good on the game, Green Day! Last, Millions of people can back me up on this. I have to agree, this setlist is pretty, actually reallly crappy. I don’t like half the stuff. Sublime, APC and Muse caught my interest a little bit. But I mean come on! They just ruined GH when they added vocals and singing. GH 1, 2, 3, 80’s and Metallica were their best. World Tour seemed cool but the only songs I actually enjoyed were the Tool songs and Scream Aim Fire and SOAD, other then that it was all just this punk, pop crap. They need to have more hard rock like Slipknot, Disturbed, Incubus, All That Remains, Atreyu, NIN, Avenged Sevenfold and some of Coheed and Cambria’s good songs like Feathers, A Favor House Atlantic, No World For Tomorrow, and Justice in Murder. I need some songs that will actually give me a challenge, none of this note repeating crap that all this punk stuff they have now have. I liked GH when I actually enjoyed playing almost every song. Now I see the setlist and I just get mad at how much GH is getting ruined. This one is going to be a very big disappointment cuz most people I know buy the game for two reasons. One actual GOOD songs and two a challenge. As far as I can see this one is going to be as easy to beat as World Tour was.
I also think that some people on here should really think before they comment, cuz some of the stuff your saying is down right annoying and stupid. Most the people that are complaining are hard rock/metal fans, so to all of you saying that a GH with only metal and hard rock songs would fail. If you haven’t notice, most the people complaining about this setlist are hard/metal fans that want a GH with only metal and hard rock on it. So I think a GH like that would be a big success, cuz not only would it get all the us hard rock/metal fans buying it but it would also get all the people would a challenge, so I think they should really consider making a GH: metal/hard rock edition, that would be kick ass!

it’s setlists like these that made me switch over to rock band…it has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better songs (including most of the ones people are complaining about not being in guitar hero) and the overall gameplay is just better. i hate the guitar though, i still have to use my guitar hero one. but seriously people, you dont have to put up with this, just make the switch to rock band and actually enjoy the songs you’re playing.

This setlist is kinda a little screwed up. I mean come on you can put Scars on broadway in but you cant put in System of a down or even Serj Tankian? There also isnt disturbed…they should be more metal and heavy metal…only old people listen to this classic stuff…the younger generations listen to pretty much either rap and hip hop or metal and hard rock. hopefully the next game will be heavier.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!! everyone needs to stop being so fuckin retarded about genre exclusive guitar heros. How about a guitar hero with a good balance of good songs from different genre’s granted I love metal but there is some shit that is actually good besides that. This is a horrible guitar hero mainly because it was made for 8 year olds who fail on beginner and old fuckers that are trying to be cool that can’t get the game started up in the first place cause they don’t know how to turn the fuckin system on (and if they do they have a stroke before the first loading screen pops up). Even though there are some great bands on here (Smashing Pumpkins, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, Sublime, The Crue, Rush, Queens of the Stoneage, Rammstein, and Johnny Cash) what happened to the guitar heros that had songs that people who actually could play the game enjoyed. Seriously, ever since Neversoft stepped in (excluding Gh3) all of the guitar heros have been shit. Theres a reason why everyone is still asking for Metallica and shit like that. Its because no one wants this band exclusive bullshit knock-offs that they sell every six months. Its a waste of money to fuckin get a game with one band on it. That goes for Rockband Beatles too. Why can’t they have some good shit like Pink Floyd, All That Remains, more/better Black Sabbath, more Tool (Jambi would be great), better Social Distortion not this Story of My Life shit, Slipknot, Dream Theater (preferably Honor Thy Father), Pearl Jam (Black would be nice), better Rise Against (like State of the Union), some Bob Marely the list goes on and on. At least have stuff that isn’t just chords and chords over and over. I learned how to play all the songs on world tour on real guitar before I learned how to play all of them on expert (they’re that easy) and add on the fact I’ve been playing Guitar Hero on expert before I even picked up a guitar for the first time. We all know that Children of Bodom and Rammstein are both going to have the two most absolute hardest songs in the game hands down. I mean I’d be fine if there was indie rock on it but not all indie rock. And for the record System of a Down has had way more then one or two good songs (Toxicity, Cigaro, Aerials, BYOB, Chop Suey, and Mesmorize are all great songs). Without a doubt this is even worse then World Tour at least World Tour had some variety/difficulty to it. This one will probly take me a day or less to be able to beat everything on every instrument. Thats all I have to say about the game.

I would love for some Slipknot to be on GH5 like Pyschosocial, Left Behind & Duality how good would that be! and some Metallica just to mix it up a bit like Battery & Enter sandman unless u can upload those songs to GH5? tbh there shud be alot more heavy metal bands like Killswitch or Slipknot :/

am i the only person around here to thinks this is the best setlist ever? it’s about time guitar hero gives credit to the little bands who have heavenly guitar riffs. i’m looking forward to this game more than the others.
Too much indie crap on this setlist. If I were to get this game it would only be for CoB, Muse and Gorrilaz. 3 songs just isn’t worth it, so I won’t be getting this or any other future game that lacks the proper dose of metal that the original fans (the people that made GH famous) need! I don’t really feel like buying another drum set, guitar and game just to play songs that are on Rock Band either. As if one drum set doesn’t take up enough room anyway!

Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Slayer, Chimaira, SOAD, Winds Of Plague, Disturbed, All Shall Perish, Gojira, Dragonforce, Trivium, Dimmu Borgir, Tenacious D and Mors Principium, you know…bands with more than an ounce of skill between them. Death metal is one of the hardest genres of music to play on both drums and guitar, so why are Activion ignoring it?! GH3 was made famous by how hard the songs were, like Through The Fire And Flames. I’m dissapointed that Dragonforce have been forgotten since they practically made GH3 what it was.
In my opinion, GH:Metallica was good except for one or two songs which were repetitive as hell (both weren’t metal songs, SURPRISE!). Soft rock, pop and indie are all obsolete when it comes to guitar playing because it’s just not fucking fun, it’s all the same chords the entire song which gets old very fast.
Fuck I’d buy two copies of a GH game that had all the bands I mentioned above. They should bring one out called GH:Ultimate Gamer Edition or Metal Uncensored WITHOUT EDITING OUT THE SWEARING! That’s like editing fucking Shakespeare ffs. All game developers want these days is the maximum amount of turnover, so they aim all the content at the mainstream population. I mean, just look at the Wii’s game list, all kid’s games, it forces the parents to buy it. It feels like gaming is losing its edge, it’s not for teenage boys anymore, sadly.
