LA’s Sunset Junction Festival Canceled

The Sunset Junction Festival, which was set to take place this coming weekend, has been canceled.

Yesterday (8/24) the Los Angeles Board of Public Works denied festival organizers the required permits to stage the weekend event, bringing an end to the 30 year old festival, at least for now.

The board rejected the permit after organizers were unable to come up with money owed to the city from last year’s event, which totaled $142,000.

Organizers were originally rejected for the permits on Monday and given until yesterday to come up with the money they owed the city.

After scrambling to get the money they were able to secure the full amount from Live Nation, however orginzer Michael McKinley was unable to deposit the money in time for the Wednesday morning deadline.

The festival was set to include 6 stages and feature performances by Butthole Surfers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and a DJ Set by Peaches. [Source: Billboard]
