The Long Blondes have once again been forced to cancel tour dates as guitarist Dorian Cox continues to recover from a serious illness. The band has canceled all their August dates, which consisted only of festival appearances.  The band previously canceled the remainder of their July tour after Cox fell ill. The good news is that Cox seems to be recovering. In a Myspace blog post the band wrote:

We are happy to be able to tell you that Dorian is improving slowly and is on the road to recovery. However, as he is still in hospital, we will be unable to play the rest of the festivals we had booked this summer. We’re very grateful for all the messages of support we have received and for respecting our privacy too - we couldn’t ask for nicer fans than you lot.

If you were looking forward to the first annual Kidzapalooza, you’re going to have to wait another year. The kid-friendly music festival, which was founded by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, has been postponed until 2009. The event, which was to take place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this September, was postponed due to scheduling conflicts with artists. The new date, to be sometime in the summer, will be announced early next year when the Hollywood Bowl announces their 2009 season.

Kidzapalooza was supposed to be a companion to Lollapalooza, also founded by Farrell.

UPDATE: As Sally points out in the comments below, Kidzapalooza in Chicago is still on and takes place August 1-3 at Chicago’s Grant Park. Go to Kidzapalooza.com

Things aren’t looking good for Zoo8 festival and its organizers. The first annual festival which was held this weekend (July 4-6) has been bombarded with fans demanding refunds after one of the festivals main headliners, Dizzee Rascal, pulled out at the last minute. The Rascals and Athlete also pulled out of the event which was held next to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. That wasn’t the only problem organizers faced, festival attendees have complained about the poor facilities after reports of several overflowing toilets as well as a lack of water taps. Even the second stage at the festival had problems which forced it to be closed for part of the day Friday and again for a short time on Sunday after a tent pole became unstable. People who attended Zoo8 have gone online to show their anger, posting messages on the event’s website with many demanding refunds and one attendee calling it “an absolute shambles.”

Co-director of the festival Danny Blanche has apologized to festivalgoers. Speaking to BBC News, Blanche said: “Obviously, none of this was ideal or planned - and not the quality of experience that we had aimed to deliver - and for that we unreservedly apologize to all those affected by the situation.”

As for the cancellation of top acts including headliner Dizzee Rascal, Blanche also took responsibility saying: “Our biggest problem was one of miscalculation over cashflow. This required us to make the pragmatic decision to cancel a few acts.”

“We want to stress that this was our first festival and that we have dealt with all problems directly and will continue to do so in preparation for next year,” he added.

Having recently wrapped up a tour that saw them supporting The Kooks across the country and We Are Scientists on the West Coast, The Morning Benders are once again gearing up for another tour to kick off in September. Taking all of August off (much deserved) the boys will then play a couple of gigs including an appearance at San Francisco’s Treasure Island Festival before kicking of their tour with Ra Ra Riot on September 29.
