Babyshambles have revealed a few details about their forthcoming new album.

The band recently spoke to NME Magazine about plans to release the new album and follow-up to 2007’s ‘Shotter’s Nation‘ sometime next year.

The band revealed that they have around 18 songs that could possibly make it onto the new album.

Although they still have not entered the studio to record any tracks, frontman Pete Doherty said that guitarist Mik Whitnall had been working on demos for the album.

Mik spent a year on eBay buying shitloads of equipment. He’s written loads of amazing music which mostly just needs lyrics. So, one by one, they’re getting turned into songs,” said the singer.

“Even as we speak, at this very moment in London somewhere, Mr Michael Whitnall – my erstwhile guitarist and songwriting partner in Babyshambles – is getting the demos together for our new album,” said the frontman.

Pete Doherty is gearing up to release his first solo album, ‘Grace/Wastelands‘, on March 16.

The Babyshambles‘ man has revealed the artwork for the forthcoming album.

The artwork was created by French artist Alize Meurisse and Doherty contributed some of his own blood to the painting.

Speaking to NME Meurisse said, “For me, the inspiration was Oscar Wilde’s ‘Salomé’ – it’s the first play he wrote directly in French. I gave that painting to Peter (since he’s got a song called ‘Salome’ [that features on the album]) and he added some of his blood to it.”

On a related note, Clash Music is currently previewing three tracks from the forthcoming album, including ‘Last of the English Roses‘ which will be the first single off the solo album.

Following a police ban on Babyshambles headlining performance at this year’s Moonfest, the three-day fest has been canceled. The festival was set to take place August 29-31 in Wiltshire but has been canceled after Wiltshire police, fearing Babyshambles performance could incite a riot, forced event organizers to strike them from the bill. BBC News is reporting that due to their banned performance event organizers made the decision to cancel the event. John Green, one of the events organizers, placed the blame squarely on police saying their decision was “due to the ramifications presented to us by the actions of the police.”

Using footage found on YouTube of a stage invasion and near riot from a previous solo gig by frontman Pete Doherty, the police took their case to North Wiltshire magistrates court arguing Babyshambles‘ performance could incite violence and asking the court to ban them, they agreed.
