La La, the popular online music store which was purchased by Apple earlier this year, will be shutting down later next month.
In a message recently posted on its site, Lala.com, Apple announced that the service “will be shut down on May 31st, 2010″.
Users will be able to access and play their music collection through the end of next month.
Users who currently have “wallet balances” will be issued an iTunes store credit after May 31st.
Starting today no new users will be allowed to sign up for the service.
It is rumored that the shut down is due in part to Apple launching iTunes as an online (in the cloud) music store.

Some of the biggest names in the music business, who apparently have nothing better to do, have teamed up for a new initiative to remind music lovers of the “significance and value of music”.
iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, We7, and MySpace are among the companies who have joined a coalition to launch a new site called Why Music Matters.
The site, which features videos, illustrations, and articles, hopes to remind people why it’s important to legal obtain their music.
Infact the site has created a “Trustmark” symbol that allows users to know that music sites they are using to download or listen to music is legal.
Any music retailer or distributor who sells or streams music legally can obtain the “Trustmark” for their site.
Unfortunately for users the “Trustmark” is not available to services that allow any user to upload content to their site.
