About a week ago Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke told NME that he feared he’d been fired from his own band after learning the rest of the group had gone into the studio without his knowledge.

Well it looks like Okereke‘s fears were justified as the group has just confirmed that they will be auditing new singers.

Speaking to NME, guitarist Russell Lisssack revealed that the band were going into the studio without Okereke, “It’s not really a secret because Kele’s been pretty busy doing solo stuff and it looks like he’s going to be doing that a bit longer. The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music. We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows.”

As for the band’s relationship with Okereke, Lissack said, “I haven’t spoken to Kele for a couple of months, I guess since the festivals when I was doing stuff with Ash. But there’s no bad vibes.”

Update: A new message on the Bloc Party’s official website reads “Bloc Party Is Still Bloc Party”, which could mean Kele is still the band’s frontman or that the band will continue to go on (even without him). Furthermore, a rep for the band has told Pitchfork that Kele is not being kicked out of Bloc Party. Although the rep makes no mention of him leaving on his own.

The Strokes have confirmed that they have entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up to their latest album, ‘Angles‘.

Although the band only released their fourth studio album earlier this year, bassist Nikolai Fraiture revealed that the band have already entered the studio and done “a little bit” of recording for the follow-up album.

“We already went back [in the studio] a little bit. Every time we have a couple of weeks off we like to go back into the studio to see how things progress and not leave them [too long],” revealed Fraiture to NME.

Speaking about how the band is getting along Fraiture said, “right now everyone’s getting along, we’re all travelling together, it’s a good vibe.”

Sonic Youth are set to enter the studio later this year to work on their new album.

Speaking to NME, Thurston Moore revealed plans for the band to get together sometime this year and write new material.

“We’ll just gather and see what happens. We made the decision to have a good solid year of not doing too much as a band. We really decided to put the brakes on the juggernaut that was the band,” revealed Moore.
