Elvis Costello has been forced to cancel two upcoming performances in Israel which were set for this summer.
The singer canceled the dates due to opposition to Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.
In a statement released on his website Costello wrote, “It is after considerable contemplation that I have lately arrived at the decision that I must withdraw from the two performances.”
“It has been necessary to dial out the falsehoods of propaganda, the double game and hysterical language of politics, the vanity and self-righteousness of public communiqués from cranks in order to eventually sift through my own conflicted thoughts,” he continued.
Read the statement below.
It is after considerable contemplation that I have lately arrived at the decision that I must withdraw from the two performances scheduled in Israel on the 30th of June and the 1st of July.
One lives in hope that music is more than mere noise, filling up idle time, whether intending to elate or lament.
Then there are occasions when merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act that resonates more than anything that might be sung and it may be assumed that one has no mind for the suffering of the innocent.
I must believe that the audience for the coming concerts would have contained many people who question the policies of their government on settlement and deplore conditions that visit intimidation, humiliation or much worse on Palestinian civilians in the name of national security.

The experimental, ethereal sounds of
Apse are coming to a stage near you. The band is currently riding their wave of critical success from last year’s LP
Climb Up, which landed #25 on Under the
Radar magazine’s top 50 albums of 2009.
Apse is confirmed to play the Showroom at Piano’s NYC on Feb. 27th along with psychedelic folk rockers Damon Moon & the Whispering Drifters and tribal punk duo Dangeroo.
Based on the lineup, the night promises to be mystical, haunting, progressive, and if nothing else, entirely, unabashedly authentic.
Apse also is scheduled to play the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona on May 27, and All Tomorrow’s Parties New York on Sept. 4.

Well
Morrissey fans attending the singers Saturday (November 7) performance in Liverpool went home upset after the singer abruptly ended his concert in the middle of his second song.
NME reports that a fan threw a bottle at Morrissey’s head while he was in the middle of his second song, ‘Black Cloud‘.
The Smiths‘ frontman told the crowd “good bye” and walked off stage immediately after the incident.
Fans waited for around 15 minutes before a member of the singers crew came out and told the audience Morrissey had been struck in the head with a bottle and would not continue his show and that they would receive full refunds.
You can watch the whole thing unfold in the video below.
